In English » As a coeliac in Finland

Welcome to Finland, coeliacs paradise!

Finland is a coeliacs paradise. This might sound like exaggeration but the truth is that in Finland people do have quite a good general knowledge of the coeliac disease. This makes a coeliacs everyday life a lot easier as you don’t have to worry each time in a restaurant if you find gluten-free food or not. These days it’s very common for restaurants to mark their gluten-free alternatives in the menú either with the international gluten-free symbol or G indicating gluten–free. And even if there’s no symbol it’s often possible to have something prepared without gluten.

In Finland supermarkets offer a wide selection of gluten-free products. Bigger the store the more alternatives they have. Some supermarket chains mark the gluten-free assortment with tags in the shelf so it’s easy to navigate in the store.

Also traveling in Finland with coeliac disease goes without problem. Even in the train you’ll find a gluten-free coffee bread! From the link below you’ll find a list of restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and hotels offering gluten-free food all around Finland.
